Where does it grow

It grows along the edges of tidal rivers and in damp patches in sand dunes.

What does it look like?

This rush-like plant  grows in clumps in a stiff erect manner.  It can grow to a metre high.  Its fine grey -green leaves are punctuated by distinct dark brown banded joints. The leaves often have a tinge of rusty red especially in late summer and autumn. It has small tightly clustered brown- red flowers that form near the tips of the wiry leaves.  It flowers October to December.

Why is it important to Castlecliff?

It is very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of conditions that are found along the river flats and dunes.
