Welcomed two Earlham College students

Today Castlecliff Coast Care again welcomed two Earlham College students on placement, during their stay in Whanganui.  University age students from Earlham College have helped Coast Care since 2012, tackling weeds, looking after the native plants and participating in educational sessions while on placement.

Plus each time on placement they have undertaken a project that adds knowledge about our local coastal environment.  Topics have included recording the plant species found on the rear dunes, wattle seed regeneration and the intervertebral distribution across the dunes.

Annmery and Sara

Our two students this summer are Sara, who is a Biology Major with a particular interest in ornithology.  Assisting Coast Care offers her the chance to look at the habitat of our coastal birds and observe them in action.  Sara will be of great value to Coast Care as she has previous experience in outdoor fieldwork including assessing plant composition and habitat health.

Our second student, Annmery, is a double major ENSU and Creative Writing, who has a lot of field science work experience, including lots of manual hands on study.  Annmery has worked with children, and has an interest in social and environmental justice.  She has volunteered for her local natural conservation parks services.
